Among favorite places to visit in Loveland are four free permanent
outdoor sculpture parks. They’re here thanks to generous
donors and the City’s Art in Public Places ordinance, which
designates one percent of the City’s capital construction
projects of $50,000 or more for the purchase, display, and
maintenance of art.
Designated in 1985, BENSON SCULPTURE GARDEN (1125
W. 29th St.) is Loveland’s largest sculpture venue. Today, the
park is recognized as “one of the 200 most important modern
and contemporary art sites around the world” and is listed as
the #1 attraction in Loveland by Trip Advisor. Each August, the
Loveland High Plains Arts Council hosts Sculpture in the Park
Show & Sale, where 2,000 pieces of sculpture join the permanent
collection for a spectacular outdoor event. Profits from this
event have been used to purchase over 189 artworks. Benson
Sculpture Garden is a relaxing and scenic retreat. Stroll through
the park, bring a picnic, or
curl up with a book.
CHAPUNGU SCULPTURE
PARK, named for Zimbabwe’s
national symbol, the Great
Spirit Bird, lets visitors
experience eight universal
themes of Nature and the
Environment, Village Life,
The Role of Women, The
Elders, The Spirit World,
The Family, The Children,
and Custom & Legend in
hand-hewn stone. Meet
families of artists through the
work of their hands; stone
textured and polished to free
what lies within the rock.
Stroll among larger-than-life
sculptures crafted from native
Zimbabwean serpentine,
springstone, opal stone,
verdite, and limestone. Listen
to the birds and frogs. Soak
up the serene atmosphere
and great mountain views.
Open year ‘round, this
venue at Centerra hosts
music concerts, self-guided
tours, and many other events
annually, and is a sought-
after venue for weddings and
fundraisers.
