RIALTO THEATER
A dynamic historic theater in the heart of downtown, the Rialto
Theater is Loveland’s premier performing arts venue, welcoming
nationally touring musicians, comedians, and performers as
well as local performing arts groups. City-owned and operated,
the magnificently restored theater features over 400 seats, and
state-of-the-art sound, lighting, and projection equipment.
The Rialto was built in 1920 as a silent movie theater and thrived
during Hollywood’s Golden Era. Now, over 100 years later,
the theater still upholds the movie tradition, screening many
films on an annual basis. The theater also presents numerous
national, regional, and local headlining acts annually, hosts
summer programming, and serves as the performance venue
for local performing arts groups.
Run by a small staff and a corps of volunteers, the Rialto
Theater Center continues to provide new and unique theater
and cinema experiences for its patrons and is an important
part of the Loveland community. Further information about
upcoming events and performances can be found online at

THEATER & MARTIAL ARTS MASHUP!
What do a nonprofit theater and a martial arts company have
in common? They both collaborated on a show, in which stage
combat was featured! Loveland’s Northern Colorado Performing
Arts (NoCoPA) brought to life a musical based on Rick Riordan’s
popular book, Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, which
includes conflicts between demigods and monsters. Making the
fight scenes look believable and captivating was important to the
theater, so they partnered with instructors from Rising Tide Martial
Arts (RT) (see page 25) to teach the actors realistic stage combat.
Leading the collaboration, NoCoPA actor and second-degree
black belt Bryce Schwarz was Fight Director. He brought in three
RT senseis—Satori, Jaelyn, and Dana—to teach the NoCoPA
actors their combat roles. All four teach Hapkido Blend classes
for children and adults in Berthoud.
The actors were very empowered by learning authentic martial arts
offense and defensive moves. Director K.B. Heying was thrilled
with the results, which wowed audiences.

THEATER
is a verb before it is a noun, an act before it is a place.
